Q1. What is an online English class?
On your own computer you can just use a headset to have a real-time, one-on-one English class with any of our highly experienced and well- trained global English language teachers. The system is easy to use and a perfect way to have real conversational practice in English if you are not living in an English speaking country.
Q2. How does it differ from a regular school class?
Your lessons are conducted on a one-on-one basis, so you can learn at your own pace.
You will learn to speak English confidently with our system of online English instruction. It is very convenient, practical, plus you can have access to your modules and other learning materials, such as the Free Links to various study helps.
Your teacher develops a lesson plan for you based on your needs and level.
You don't have to travel to school for your English class-- a great way to study without having to take time traveling.
Q3. How can I have an online English class?
You and your teacher will use your Skype or Google-talk accounts for the lessons. At the time of your lesson your teacher will send you a message to open voice communication. When you accept the invitation you will be able to hear your teacher clearly, and he/she will hear you clearly as well. Your lesson begins and if you don't understand what he/she is saying, you can also use the typing function (chat box) of Skype or Google-talk to check out what he/she is telling you.
Q4. What is your equipment requirement?
A computer with a Windows Operating System with at least 512 RAM or memory, a broadband Internet connection (cable, ADSL etc) and a headset. You will need to use Skype or Google-talk. Please go to your local Skype or Google-talk site to download it.
Q5. Do I have to pay for the phone bill too?
No, you don't have to pay for a phone bill on this. Because you need a Broadband Internet connection you will only pay your monthly Internet charges.
Q6. Is one lesson good only for 25 minutes?
Yes all your lessons are good only for 25 minutes a day, Mondays to Fridays.
Q7. What will I do if there is something in the lesson that I cannot understand?
A sk your teacher to explain again. If you cannot understand what he/she is saying please ask him/her to type it on the chat box. You may also type your questions. If you still cannot understand please check our online dictionary by going to the Free Links section. You may also send your question/s to us through e-mail at administrator@englishgreat.com, and we will e-mail the answer back to you with an explanation in English. )
Q8. Are there textbooks to be used for the lessons?
We have online Modules that you can download to study on your own before and after each class. If there is a specific textbook, other than the Modules , that you would like to use as a reference material you may do so. We encourage you to do outside reading in English (meaning to read English reading materials other than the prescribed Modules) so that you will learn faster.
Q9.From where are your teachers?
Our teachers are all highly-trained professional global English language teachers.
Q10. Will I study my lessons with the same teacher?
If you choose to enroll with a fixed schedule, you will study under the same teacher. And if you enroll with on flexible schedule, you may have to study under different teachers. Also, if your teacher is sick, has some emergency or is replaced, you will have a substitute or replacement teacher. But, this rarely happens. And don’t worry, all our teachers are very competent to teach you and to follow through all your lessons with continuity.
Q11. How can I start attending classes?
After we have confirmed receipt of your payment, we will send you an auto e-mail advising you
to login and select the class schedule that is convenient for you so that you can start attending your classes. Our classes are synchronized to start every Monday. So please check your e-mail once you have enrolled and paid your tuition for your confirmation.
Q12. What will I do if I cannot login?
If there is a system or a technical problem at your end, please e-mail us at a dministrator@englishgr Ieat.com or if the problem is from our end, the Administrator will e-mail you. Rest assured though that we always have teachers available to teach and study with you every time you login for a lesson, that is if you have a flexible time schedule, if you are taking a remedial class or a free trial class.
Q13. What happens if I skipped or missed a lesson in case I got sick or was not available?
Just fill up and submit the Remedial Class Request Form (RCRF) which can be accessed by clicking the link at your Student Profile Page. The Administrator will advise you thru e-mail about our acceptance of your reason/s and will give you your schedule of remedial classes on a flexible schedule. If you will be absent, send your request at least within 24 hours before your scheduled leave of absence. Or, if you have been absent due to sickness, send your request for a remedial class as soon as you have resumed attending classes again. The Administrator will see to it that you will have remedial class/es. You can only be excused from being absent three (3) times in one module month and your corresponding remedial classes will be set by the Administrator.
Q14. What happens if I go on a long trip abroad or if I got sick or hospitalized beyond three days and could not find a way to go on with my classes temporarily? As much as possible avoid going on a long trip while you are enrolled with us so as not to jeopardize your English learning program. But if it cannot be avoided for you to do so, just fill up and submit the Official Leave of Absence Form (OLOA) which can be accessed by clicking the link at your Student Profile Page. The Administrator will advise you thru e-mail about our acceptance of your reason/s and will give you your schedule of remedial classes on a flexible schedule.
If you have been sick or hospitalized beyond three (3) days, just fill up and submit the Official Sick Leave of Absence Form (OSLOA) which can be accessed too by clicking the link at your Student Profile Page. The Administrator will advise you thru e-mail about our acceptance of your reason/s and will give you your schedule of remedial classes on a flexible schedule.
Q15. What will happen if I do not finish my module due to frequent absences.?
It is against our policy to refund payments or portions, thereof, if you miss your classes beyond the allowable three (3) excusable absences in a given module month –that is, if you do not file for an Official Leave of Absence (OLOA) or an Official Sick Leave of Absence (OSLOA) within twenty-four hours before your official leave of absence or immediately after your sick leave of absence . As such, portions of your tuition affected by your frequent absences beyond the excusable number of absences will be forfeited in favor of EnglishGreat.Com.
Q16. I'm not familiar with computers, can I have online English lessons?
Yes, you do not need to use any complicated programs with EnglishGreat.Com. If you know how to use the nternet and how to use the Skye and/or Google-talk platforms, you can definitely take classes with us. We will also support you online to help you get used to the system.
Q17. Where can I buy a headset?
You can buy a headset at any computer shop. Please check that the headset you buy can be used effectively with the Skype and Google-talk systems. If you are not sure please ask the shop personnel and they should be able to help you
Q18. I have a Macintosh computer, can I use it for my English lessons?
We are sorry, but at the moment Macintosh users are unable to use the Windows operating systems that we use.
Q19. My computer already has speakers. Do I still have to use a headset?
We recommend that students use a headset because you get clearer sound reception and you don't produce any feedback from your speakers. If you don't use a headset sometimes there is a big echo, and you can hear your own voice, which is distracting when you are having a class. A good headset can be bought inexpensively at a any computer shop.
Q20. Do I have to use a web cam?
You don't have to use a webcam. English can be learned just by listening and speaking. And if you need to write down something, just use the chat box on your monitor screen. Besides, the web cam uses video streaming which also slows down the bandwidth speed of the Internet connection.
Q21. I use dial-up internet connection, is it ok to use?
A dial-up Internet connection is generally too slow and cannot support voice or chat functions. Students who use dial-up connection often get disconnected. Thus a Broadband Internet connection (ADSL/Cable, etc) is highly recommended. If you usually use messenger with a dial up connection without any problem or hassle, then please let us know. We can do a connection check and if it's okay and if you want to have classes with us then you may enroll.
